A Designer's Quest

My Return to Elance.com

Rate this Entry
I have posted recently about my return to Elance.com I had been pretty active on that site several years ago but for a couple of reason (lack of time being the biggest) I stopped biding on jobs.

Well, due to economic reasons...I need the extra money, and because I missed the creative process - I returned. I specialize in ebook covers and page design so my first job was a small ebook design project. This project required complete page design and type setting as well as the ebook cover design.

I used Adobe Indesign exclusively for the page set-up and a combination of Xara, Photoshop, and the Web Graphics Creator for the cover.

The customer was very happy with the project and gave me great feedback on the site. I had great fun with this project and hopefully will win a new project bid soon.

One thing I find a bit challenging is to find examples of and to create my own fresh and modern page designs. There are only so many ways to configure text on a page and it must...above all else, make the book readable. The best way to accomplish that is to find a good set of fonts (serif and sans) that will add and not take away from the design. I am currently in the search of some winning font combos and will report back here when I find some.

I have attached a small sample page of the book here. The fonts I used in this project were Verdena and Georgia...I think they worked nicely together. Let me know what you think of the cover.
