Hi,
Have been running a successful photographic business for six years but looking to kick off a new logo. You can see my current text based logo on my main site at www.nenedigital.co.uk.
Details
Do you own The Logo Creator?
No
Type of design:
Logo
Summary:
General digital photography business
Full requirements:
Something sharp that suggests reliability, quality, professional ...... not cheesy clip-art based.
Can live with text only (as at present) but can be persuaded on graphics if they fit with the image I want. The "Nene" part of the name comes from the local river. I'm based in Peterborough and I cover the East Midlands and Eastern Counties of the UK.
Company Name:
Nene Digital Photography
Desired tagline:
None
Color scheme:
Happy to be persuaded but still have a bias towards current brand colours of grey (close to: #696868) and blue (close to: #4e9fba).
Desired style:
Simple, clean, sharp, classy !
Notes to designers:
Good luck. I'm not a big budget operation but will pay for the right result if anybody hits the spot !

Welcome Paul33,
Here's one of my ideas to get things started, I'll try to post more this evening. I did a sample with both black and white backgrounds.
Have a great day!

That was quick !
Right direction I think but, and I apologise for not making this clear, "Nene Digital" is the company name so needs to have equal prominence ...... it's NENE DIGITAL photography rather than NENE digital photography !

No problem at all. Here's a few more ideas playing with the same basic elements before I go a different direction. The word 'photography' could even be dropped from the logo if you wanted to. I like these fonts for a technology based business, but have many, many more to choose from. If I'm way off base please don't hesitate to tell me. Talk to you soon.

I like #1 most out of the four (7/10 ?) and #2 least ..... not keen on the large "d". The first one makes me wonder whether there isn't something clever you could do with the ND as a graphic within the logo, almost as something that can break away as a sub-logo in its own right.

Just thought I'd give it a try.

Nickydude - didn't do it for me, I think its the background as much as anything else !
Lamo1graphic - The graphic is actually not bad but I don't like the "DIGITAL" text ...... it looks too weak and spindly (could be the black outline on it). It's also emphasing and isolating the "Nene" again which I'm not over comfortable with as the business name is "Nene Digital".
prototype66 - really don't like the green logo but the lower ND one is quite clever. Some variations on that theme would be good.

I think that particular structure could be where I want to go ...... ie: a graphic with "ND" in on top and the text below but I don't like either the graphic or the text.
I liked the earlier graphic with the ND fully enclosed and I think variations on the first (top left) of the four you did could be good ...... I like the circle unbroken.
The text needs to be sharp, classy, almost corporate in appearance.

I'm still thinkin' circular because of a camera lens, but here's an abstract N & D. Good Luck. I'm on vacation for a few days, but will check back frequently.

I think Awalck is getting into the warm zone here ...... I think he has pretty much nailed the font. That's the feel I'm looking for font-wise.
However, the ND is a little too obscure for me ...... I had to struggle to make out the N and D. I prefer prototype66's graphic (but still not the font !) so I think close variations on that graphic, combined with something very similar, if not same as, Awalck's text and we might be there !

23rd July 2007, 06:40 PM
Jeez ...... it's all kicking off now !!!
I'm seeing a lot of variations on a theme here so, unless somebody comes up with something drop-dead brilliant, I'm happy to narrow this one down as so many are getting close.
I'm fairly hooked on the graphic centralised above two lines of text.
I'm happy that the graphic should have a photographic link, thus the circle (lens) seems most valid.
I like the idea of the ND being inside the circle as it gives me a breakaway logo in itself but I'm not comfortable with the N or D breaking the circle shape ...... I like them inside and I think the two letters sharing the same edge as the circle works well.
Text wise, I'm seeing a lot of spindly text that just looks a shade too weak for me ...... and I'm not sure how that would hold up if downsized onto a small photograph (for example).
Specific feedback (and big up to all of you for your efforts) .....
gettagrip - the three in post #21 are quite pleasing to the eye. The feel is right, the colors are good but I'm kind of hooked on the ND circle now ...... and I'm not sure about the fonts either (don't like anything remotely times new roman and I'm not keen on the mixed case text either). Don't like the broken circles in #24. Like #25 other than the circle looks a little too large and the text inside a little too weak. #26 is classy and if I lose interest in the ND circle then that's very close to hitting the spot !
prototype66 - post #27, it's top left and bottom left for me. Like the circles, like the fit of the ND (probably top left marginally the better) but ...... the text still isn't right. Check out posts #17 and #26 for something closer to the mark. Could you also build some of my brand colors in to these ideas ? What would the circles look like in different combinations of white / blue / grey ?

here's a slight variation of #25

more....just changed font in circle
Paul33
24th July 2007, 05:48 AM
It's close !
I'm still keen on prototype66's use of text in the circle, whereby the letters and circle edge merge as one ...... rather than having the letters sit independantly within the circle.
I think the NENE DIGITAL text is just fine, not sure about the horizontal line and not sure about the PHOTOGRAPHY font ...... can we try something more Arial than Times New Roman ?
And, as a last "what if", what about placing the circle left of the text rather than above it ...... probably won't work but I'd like to see !!!

Okay I'm going to wrap this one up at midnight (GMT) tonight as I'm taking up a lot of your time.
Before making any final submissions, can I just stress again the things I like from what I've seen so far .........
1. A circle with ND in it but in the form used by prototype66 (above) whereby the letters form part of the circle edge.
2. My brand colours ...... I really don't want purple, green, etc
3. The "Nene Digital" font used by gettagrip (above)
4. A non-fussy "Photography" font - not times new roman
5. Variations on the ND circle colouring (variations using white/grey/blue)
6. Variations on circle placement - eg: left of text, above text, above left of text, etc
Good luck !

Okay, first up and once again, many thanks to all the contributors on this one ....... very impressed !
I came into this one with what I thought was a rough idea of the ideal result but I was ready to be diverted off by new ideas. I became quite obsessed with the use of a circle graphic and was looking to see if we could use ND within it but, although there were some great ideas, none of them completely nailed it for me.
Every logo submitted has in some way influenced my thinking but, ironically, and after much input from my wife and four kids, the logo I am looking to run with was the first one to introduce the circle concept to me and that was Awalck and specifically the first of his designs in posting #4 ....... I've emailed Allen to take things further.
I will be kicking off a second thread later today for a second logo for my wedding specific business so I'm hoping for an equally great response on that one.
